Perspectives: Traditions and Innovations in Glass Beads and

The International Society of Glass Beadmakers is pleased to present Perspectives: Traditions and Innovations in Glass Beads, at More Fire Glass Studio. This juried exhibition of ISGB artists represents the endlessly captivating styles, techniques, and processes used in contemporary glass beadmaking. Unique color, form, and textural elements were combined to highlight the infinite possibilities of glass, as expressed by our members. Artists were encouraged to create a bead that best captured their inspiration and personal “voice.”
The Perspectives exhibit was designed to celebrate the diversity of expression that is possible in glass beadmaking, from time honored traditional techniques to innovative ways of working with glass. Some artists played around with surface, while others chose to focus on form. Artists achieved beautiful imagery by using enamels, acid etching, sandblasting through photo-resist, and experimenting with reduction and oxidation. Sculptural techniques were utilized to form beads ranging from a tropical bird to a bobble-head rendition of Salvador Dali. Beadmakers chose to work entirely in glass or incorporate other elements such as PMC, silver foil, or electroforming. Established artists created new works in the styles they are known for, while emerging artists tried out new ones. The resulting exhibit is an impressive array of small wonders.
